Rachel Johnson
American back-row Rachel Johnson made an immediate impact for the Chiefs, scoring on her debut against Saracens in January 2020, as Exeter ended the Londoners 33-match unbeaten run.
Having not started playing rugby until she went to college in Portland, Johnson’s trajectory in the sport has been impressive, earning selection for Oregon Sports Union RFC in the Women’s Premier League shortly after college and earning her first international cap in 2018 at Soldier Field. Johnson was part of the 2022/23 World Cup squad and continues to add to her caps for the Eagles.
Away from the sport, Johnson has a degree in nursing and community health, working as a mental health nurse and rugby coach for Reed College back in the States when she is not playing overseas.
An abrasive and physical ball carrier, Johnson's dynamism with ball in hand has added an extra level to the Exeter attack. She surpassed her 50th appearance in the 2023/24 season.
