Exeter Chiefs U18s Team to Face Saracens Academy
Exeter Chiefs U18s get their academy league campaign underway on Wednesday 23rd August when they host Saracens at Truro College (midday kick off).
The squad have prepared for the new campaign with a new look pre-season which started on the 3rd August with a residential camp where players and coaches were able to set the scene ahead of the 23/24 season.
Under the tutelage of Academy Manager Rob Gibson, the pre-season work has shown serious promise with the experienced coach commenting, “the players and staff have worked exceptionally hard over the past 6/7 weeks, we have seen the progression the individuals and the team have made during this period and we are all excited to see them perform next Wednesday”.
The U18s squad had their first hit out on Tuesday 8th August when they took on Sale, Newcastle and Bath at an RFU festival at Malvern school. Scoring seven tries and conceding none, the squad returned to Devon with three victories under their belts.
Gibson added “The lads played well at Malvern, it was pleasing to see what we have worked on in training come to fruition they have made selection a real challenge for the coaching group however this is a great problem to have and the depth we have in this squad is something we haven’t had for a while. We are excited for the challenge that Saracens will bring, they are always a very strong opponent but we are looking to start our campaign at home on a positive foot”.
