Senft delighted with win on the road

Exeter Chiefs back-rower Gabby Senft spoke of her delight after helping her side secure a comprehensive 84-0 victory over Wasps in the Allianz Premier 15s on Saturday.

Susie Appleby’s side maintained their winning streak with another powerful performance in the capital, running in 14 tries and condemning their hosts to another tough day at the office.

No.8 Kate Zackary led the way with a hat-trick of tries, but there were further touchdowns for Emily Tuttosi, Liv McGoverne (2), Claudia MacDonald, Rachel Johnson, Eilidh Sinclair (2), Laura Sheehan, Flo Robinson, Rachel Johnson and Hope Rogers.

Senft was an early introduction off the bench, replacing the injured Nancy McGillivray just 15 minutes into the match at Twyford Avenue. Her inclusion saw Zackary shuffled into the back division with the Canadian international added to the back-row alongside Johnson and former Wasps favourite, McMahon.

Reflecting on the victory, Senft spoke of how pleased she was with the final scoreline.

“If you look at the scoreline, 84-0, that’s pretty awesome,” she said. “It was an interesting game, but we pulled it off in the end there, a great score.”

Senft had a much earlier introduction to the game than she was expecting, however the player who hails from the City of Regina in Canada believes that the work put in during the week is the key factory in being able to adapt so easily to unexpected changes.

“That’s why we put the work in through the week, I mean I adapted to it and it is what it is I guess, so I was stoked and ready for it.”

With the unbelievable talent and strength in depth available to the coaches, chances for certain members of the squad to show what they can do can be few and far between, however Senft was keen to emphasise what an ‘honour’ it is to play alongside some of the ‘world class’ players at the club.

She added: “I love playing alongside all these team-mates that I have, world class like you said, and every time I step on the pitch it’s always an honour.”

The Chiefs are back home at Sandy Park this Saturday where they will take on the perennial strugglers of the league, the DMP Sharks, however Senft although clearly excited at the prospect of running out in front of another home Sandy Park crowd, was wary of the challenges the team from Durham will bring, especially with the new signings they have made in recent weeks.

“They’ve got those new Americans there. I mean it’s a home crowd, let’s be excited for a loud stadium and a home game.”
