Kate Zackary Departs the Chiefs
It is with a heavy heart that the Exeter Chiefs bid farewell to our very own Captain America, Kate Zackary.
Following three hugely successful and influential seasons in Devon, the USA Eagles captain departs the club this summer, heading to West London and PWR debutants Ealing Trailfinders.
Zackary has been one of the cornerstones around which the Chiefs have developed their rapid rise to the pinnacle of the domestic game, cementing herself as a player to watch, whichever number jersey she is wearing.
A natural athlete and leader, Kate has proven herself equally comfortable breaking from the base of the scrum, as she is carving up in the outside channels playing in the centres. Topping the try-scoring charts for the past two seasons, she has produced crucial moments of individual brilliance that have proved key on the road to claiming two Allianz Cup triumphs, and back-to-back Premier15s finals.
Head Coach Susie Appleby was glowing in her praise for Zackary, “Kate is an unbelievable athlete and player. Her pace, distribution skills and tenacity around the breakdown made her a threat that is impossible for teams to ignore. She is a prolific try scorer, and I don’t get me started on her kicking skills!
We’d like to wish Kate all the very best on her move, a huge congratulations as she prepares to marry her partner Mandy later this month, and an enormous thank you, for trusting and believing in our vision, and for making Exeter your home over the past three years.”
From everyone at the club, we’d like to wish Kate all the very best on her move to London, and we look forward to welcoming her back to Sandy Park in the coming season.
