Over the October half term the Exeter Chiefs Community Department held two girls-only camps following a huge success at Kingsbridge in April.
The camps were held at St Austell RFC and Exeter College, focusing focussing on improving the core skills of each of the girls involved, such as decision-making, tackling, passing and kicking, all of which can be taken back to their clubs to improve over the coming season.
Women and Girls Rugby is growing massively at the moment, and the Exeter Chiefs are trying to build on that and improve the girls’ game in the area so that the future stars are getting the best chances possible. The Community rugby camps have traditionally been mixed, but with the growth of the girls’ game, it became essential to offer girls an environment to improve their core skills with their peers.
“The growth in the girls game has come on leaps and bounds over the past few seasons, and to get so many girls getting involved with our camps is a great success.” said Ann Webb, Chiefs Community Development Coach.
"Over the course of the two days, we saw more than 50 girls from across Devon and Cornwall taking part in the coaching days. The skills on show were incredible and improvements seen throughout the day were very rewarding to see."
