Hundreds of rugby fans packed Exeter city centre on Monday evening to celebrate the success of the Exeter Chiefs Women’s Team.
After a season to remember for Susie Appleby’s side - which included lifting the inaugural Allianz Cup, as well as coming runners-up in the Allianz Premier 15s - supporters of the side lined the streets to pay homage to their seasonal efforts.
The successful team were greeted by fans during an open-top bus parade down the High Street, after which the team, coaching staff and club directors were then treated to a civic reception at the historic Guildhall, where they were met by the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr Yolonda Henson.
The Lord Mayor said: “We as a city couldn't be more prouder of the Exeter Chiefs Women’s team, who have accomplished so much in such a short time. They have helped to put our city on the map, bringing to the region international stars and fans alike.”
In replying to the Lord Mayor, Appleby added: “It’s been a fantastic season for the team and for the club as a whole. I can’t thank the players and my staff enough for all of their efforts, which have been outstanding. To have a night like tonight is just reward for all of their hard work.
“To the supporters as well, it’s been brilliant having you come to games and again this evening on the streets. Something special is being created here and we want you all to be part of the journey.”
