Behind the Brand: Advanced Scaffolding

Over the course of the year, we will be introducing the people behind the brands that we all see on the Exeter Chiefs kit and around the stadium to give people an insight into our commercial partners.

Matt Bacon, Managing Director of Advanced Scaffolding (SW) Ltd

Who are you and what do you do? I am the Managing Director of Advanced Scaffolding (SW) Ltd. I founded Advanced Scaffolding back in 1999 after completing my scaffold training. After working locally for a few years it was apparent there was a gap in the market in my local area for a professional scaffolding company and so Advanced Scaffolding was created. We erect and hire scaffolding and access solutions for the domestic, commercial and industrial sector.

Who inspires you in the world of business? My Dad. Although not a business man, he was a Headmaster, his morals, integrity, hard work, professionalism and leadership skills that he demonstrated everyday shaped the person I am today and its these attributes which are the core of my own business.

What was it that made you want to partner with Exeter Chiefs? And what do you hope to achieve? I have always been a huge rugby fan, playing in my younger days for Ilfracombe and Barnstaple RFU and watching both league and union. The similarities we have with Rob Baxter and the ethos of the club is something we share and want to support. As a business investing in local talent, on-going training and working hard, creating team loyalty, having pride in what we achieve and supporting each other is the foundation of our success.

What can Members, supporters and club partners expect to see from the business over the next 12 months? Advanced Scaffolding has seen steady growth over the last 23 years despite the global pandemic and the continued uncertainty economically, we expect this growth to continue. Particularly in Exeter where hundreds of new properties are currently being constructed - we are looking to recruit more employees locally to join our team full time.

What exactly is it that you do? I manage the day to day running of my business alongside a tight management team. Together we deal with staff, tender contracts, organise logistics, attend site meetings, manage Health & Safety, maintain customer relations and more.

Favourite thing to do away from the office? Spend time with family, travel, eating out and watching the Chiefs.

Favourite sports person? Jonah Lomu.

Are there more wheels or doors in the world? Wheels.

Who would you most like to have dinner with past or present? Winston Churchill, Johnny Depp, Peter Kay.

What superpower would you like to have? Teleportation.
