Williams says he's keen to kick on
Prop Harry Williams has vowed to kick on and build on a promising first Aviva Premiership start in Exeter Chiefs' win over Bath on Sunday.
Tighthead Williams was drafted into the starting XV for the derby at Sandy Park with regulars Tomas Francis and Moray Low away on Six Nations duty with Wales and Scotland, respectively.
And the 24-year-old responded well as Exeter's pack overpowered their Bath counterparts time and again to help them to a 26-17 victory.
And Williams, who arrived in Devon from Jersey last summer, hopes to use the victory as a platform to boost his claims for regular game time.
"I 100 per cent want to kick on from this," he said. "Nobody wants to be a one-trick pony and come out and have a really big, energetic and emotional first start but drop off after that and fade into obscurity a little bit afterwards.
"I definitely don't want that, I want to keep chugging on and getting a few more games under my belt.
"I think having not played so far during the season becomes a monkey on your back, but as soon as you are out there and running around with the crowd behind you it all goes away and I was just glad to get a start under my belt."
He added: "I have obviously only been here one season but apparently every game we have against these boys is a bit of a ding-dong battle.
"They are not going so well at the moment but they were difficult to break down and we had a few dodgy phases just before and after half time. I think the fact that we came through that and shut it out really well was great. I thought it was pretty convincing."
