Exeter Chiefs star Thomas Waldrom reckons their charge into the Champions Cup quarter-final was down to the freedom instilled in them by head coach Rob Baxter.

The Devon side will travel to the Ricoh Arena to take-on Wasps in the last eight after they stormed to a bonus-point 33-17 win over the Ospreys.

The victory, plus ASM Clermont Auvergne's failure to pick-up a losing bonus-point at Bordeaux-Begles, saw the Chiefs sneak into the knockout rounds of the Champions Cup for the first time in the club's history.

No.8 Waldrom crashed over twice against the Welsh region to collected his tenth try of the season, and he says the Chiefs are enjoying their opportunity to express themselves in Europe.

He said: "We wanted to go out there and enjoy it. It's nice to have that pressure and we just had to enjoy it, that's what I like doing and it was nice to get the freedom from Rob (Baxter) to go out and do it week-in-week out.

"It's really nice to be Champions Cup quarter-finalists! We had to come out here and do a job and the boys did that very well today. It's something to really look forward to after a block of Premiership games, and I'm stoked for the club and what we've achieved this year. But it's only half-way and we still have a lot to do.

"We just concentrated on ourselves this week, we didn't overthink it too much, we just looked at what we had to do. We had a couple of goals going into this game and we did those really well. It's amazing for the club and I'm so proud of the boys today."
