Having confirmed earlier this week he will be leaving Exeter Chiefs at the end of the season, Brett Sturgess has today penned a two-year deal with National League One side Ampthill.

The popular loosehead prop will take on a player-coach role with the ambitious Bedfordshire-based club.

The 34-year-old forward will depart Sandy Park after nine seasons with the Chiefs, during which time he has amassed 166 first team appearances and scored 10 tries.

Sturgess said: "I am pleased and excited to join Ampthill and I intend to contribute in any way I can both on and off the field. Having made the decision to return to the East Midlands with my family, Ampthill was an obvious choice sealed by the club’s ambition and ethos which reminds me of Exeter when I joined them in 2007.”
