Exeter Chiefs prop Moray Low came off the bench in the dying moments to help Scotland bring an end to a nine-match losing run in the Six Nations with a precious 36-20 win over Italy in Rome.

Vern Cotter's team thundered into a 17-3 lead with clinical early tries from John Barclay and John Hardie.

Italy - who included Exeter Chiefs centre Michele Campagnaro in their starting line-up - responded with scores from Leonardo Ghiraldini and Marco Fuser, while Scotland lost Finn Russell and WP Nel to the sin-bin in the last quarter.

However, Greig Laidlaw's nerveless goal-kicking and Tommy Seymour's late try saw them over the winning line at last.
