Who will emerge as best of 2015?

Another scintillating year of Aviva Premiership Rugby is set to be consigned to the history books but before the ink is dried, there are some statistical scores to be settled in Round 7.

Exeter Chiefs No.8 Thomas Waldrom leads Aviva Premiership Rugby try-scorers in 2015 with 11 efforts – and he has two Saracens players snapping at his heels heading into the final games of the calendar year.

Chris Ashton is on ten tries and, following his hat-trick over Oyonnax last weekend, few would bet against him finding joy at Wasps, while fellow Saracens flyer Chris Wyles is just behind on nine.

But Waldrom will have to something to say about that when Chiefs take on Sale Sharks, having run in a hat-trick against Wasps in Aviva Premiership Rugby last time out.

He will likely finish some way off the record, however – Iain Balshaw racked up a sensational 16 tries for Bath Rugby in 2000.

As far as the top points-scorer race for the calendar year goes, Nick Evans has pelted himself into pole position thanks to his stunning early-season form off the tee for Harlequins. He has collected 95 points from just six games this season, bringing up his total for the year to 194, and he’ll look for another fine showing against Gloucester Rugby in order to ward off the challenge of Northampton Saint Stephen Myler – who takes on London Irish and currently has 178 points to his name.

The all-time record is out of sight for both though, as Barry Everitt hauled in an eye-watering 332 points for the Exiles in 2001.

It is hard to imagine a Bath team without Semesa Rokoduguni lining up on the wing and he is currently leading the race for the most Aviva Premiership Rugby minutes played in 2015, but only by a sliver.

Rokoduguni, who has started 17 league games this year, sits on 1300 minutes only just ahead of Wasps centre Elliot Daly (1283) and Saracens full-back Alex Goode (1280).

But Exeter Chief Will Chudley (pictured) deserves a tip of the hat too – he has not only started every Aviva Premiership Rugby game in 2015, but every clash extending back to September 19, 2014.

Matt Garvey and Nick Auterac are also seemingly guaranteed some minutes in Aviva Premiership Rugby for Bath, as the only two players to have played some part of all 19 league games for Bath.

If Leicester Tigers scrum-half Sam Harrison and Saracens flanker Jackson Wray help their team to victories this weekend, they will have played the most times on a winning Aviva Premiership Rugby team in 2015.

Their record stands at 14 wins, three losses, although two further Saracens in Maro Itoje and Jamie George sit just behind on 13 wins and four losses. But Aviva Premiership Rugby is never just about individual names. Heading into the last weekend of 2015, 569 players have appeared in the league this year – here’s to a fantastic finale.
