Replacement Billy Vunipola scored a last-gasp try to ensure England collected maximum reward from their opening fixture at this year’s Rugby World Cup.

With time all but up at a packed out Twickenham, the powerful Saracens forward propelled himself over the whitewash to claim the all-important fourth try in a 35-11 victory.

Two tries from full-back Mike Brown, coupled with a first half penalty try, were the other highlights for Stuart Lancaster’s side, whose remaining points came courtesy of George Ford and Owen Farrell.

In reply, Fiji - who put a valiant fight for large parts of the game - were rewarded with a try by former Exeter Chiefs winger Nemani Nadolo, who also added a penalty alongside another successful kick from fly-half Ben Volavola.

England’s next match is against Wales at Twickenham next Saturday, before they face Australia and Uruguay in their final Pool A fixtures.
