Chiefs sign up to the Exeter Pound

Exeter Chiefs has become the latest independent business in the city to sign up to the Exeter Pound.

The Aviva Premiership club has today joined more than a hundred other traders to use the complimentary currency, which will be given a special launch at Sandy Park on Saturday ahead of the club's West Country Challenge Cup clash with Bath (3pm).

Members of the public will be able to purchase Exeter Pounds at a special Exchange Point at the stadium on the day, and can then use the local money to pay for admission and in some of the bars at the club.

The main benefit is to keep currency circulating locally to boost independent businesses and the community economy. The new notes also serve to demonstrate city identity and pride.

Also on sale will be the special Rugby World Cup notes - £15 Exeter Pounds! These are officially commended by the international competition and are expected to be unique collectors’ items. One side of the paper note depicts Exeter Chiefs and England star Jack Nowell in action, whilst the other portrays the national team in action.

Exeter Rugby Club Chief Executive and Chairman, Tony Rowe OBE, said: “This is a new partnership of working together to the advantage of the whole city. We are very pleased to be able to support Exeter Pound and its future”.

Exeter Pound director Martyn Goss said, “This will be a great occasion to mark the importance of both Exeter Chiefs and the Exeter Pound for the city of Exeter. In different ways they contribute to the wealth of the wider community and its economy."

Other businesses already supporting the Exeter Pound include city centre cafes, local shops in Heavitree, St. Thomas, Magdalen Road and Topsham, and family firms across the city area.
