World Club 7s opportunity awaits
Premiership Rugby and Ultimate Rugby Sevens (UR7s) are once again giving the chance to players across the UK to be selected, and involved at the World Club 7s at Twickenham on August 16 & 17 with the 2nd annual World Club 7s Combine taking place at Wasps Training Ground, Twyford Avenue at 1pm on Sunday August 3.
The Combine will put the participating players through their paces, challenging both their athletic & physical fitness and rugby sevens skills with a selection of drills taken from the world of rugby 7s.
Following the Combine, a squad of 15 players will be selected to become both the '13th team' at the World Club 7s, where players will get the chance to play for sides such as Auckland, Harlequins, New York and Western Province if players in their squads are injured and need to be replaced.
In 2013, 11 of the 12 selected players ran onto the hallowed turf of Twickenham after being called upon by some of the best sides in the world. Many of the squad also had the chance to train with the likes of Auckland, Western Province and New York in the lead up to the tournament meeting some famous faces and incredible players up close.
BT Sport and the rugby media will be at the Combine in an event that is in it's second year, giving rugby 7s players from the invitational circuit a chance to be involved in a tournament including many of the worlds best rugby clubs and players.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for players to make a dream come true and have the chance to run out at Twickenham in a major international tournament," said Phil Winstanley, Rugby Director, Premiership Rugby. "The selection process will be rigorous as we look to find a squad of players who are capable of standing in and representing some of the finest clubs in world rugby.
"As last year's tournament showed, there is a very real chance for these guys to get some game time and even pick up a medal - it really is the stuff dreams are made of!"
UR7s CEO Tom Burwell said about the event "We were so pleased with how the combine went last year, the fact that players played for clubs from all over the world and that Huw Bevan even won a winners medal with ACT proved both the talent and the need for the 13th team.
"We are hoping we will have even more players to the Combine this year and remember you don't have to play for well known 7s teams during the summer to take part, if you think you have what it takes, then come and prove it at the combine"
