Nowell gets England call
By Mark Stevens
Exeter Chiefs wing Jack Nowell was one of 34 players tonight called up by England head coach Stuart Lancaster to prepare for Saturday’s upcoming QBE Autumn international against South Africa at Twickenham.
Cornishman Nowell was part of Lancaster's initial squad for the autumn international series, but was allowed to return to the Chiefs last Wednesday and was not involved in England's 24-21 defeat to New Zealand on Saturday.
Instead the Truro-born back, together with club-mate Henry Slade who also spent the early part of last week training at Pennyhill Park, featured for the Chiefs in their 18-6 LV= Cup victory over Bath Rugby at Sandy Park.
Meanwhile, Northampton Saints lock Courtney Lawes will undergo the Graduated Return To Play protocol overseen by the England medical team after suffering concussion during the first half of the loss to New Zealand.
Centre Luther Burrell and fly-half Stephen Myler will remain at Northampton Saints for continued treatment on hand and hamstring injuries respectively.
Lancaster said: “The players have had recovery today and we will review the match as a group tomorrow morning before moving on to preparing for South Africa.”
