Low targets top four finish

 

Moray Low may still be getting his feet under the table at Exeter Chiefs but the burly prop says a top-four berth in the Aviva Premiership Rugby standings is well within their grasp.

Saturday's 31-15 victory over Wasps temporarily sent the Chiefs to the top of the table, although Northampton Saints reclaimed their position at the summit on Sunday.

However, with three wins in a row under their belts, second-placed Exeter are proving to be this season's surprise package and look set to gatecrash the play-off places if their form continues.

For Low, who joined this summer from Glasgow Warriors, it has been a joy to watch.

And although the Chiefs' brilliant start to the campaign has restricted his starting chances, the Scottish international has no qualms about joining a winning side.

"It's been tough to break in, and that's hats off to the squad we've got here, there's a lot of competition for places," said Low, who has been busy making his impact from the bench.

"The guys in front of me have been playing really well, but that's the nature of the challenge, it makes the whole team better and individually it makes you better as well.

"It's great to have that environment and that competitive edge. Every time you go out it's an opportunity to stake a claim. Coming on from the bench you always want to make an impact, and continue the good work the guys have done before you.

"Every team sets goals at the start of the season, and the top four is in our sights but the key is to keep getting victories and building the gap.

"There is starting to be a bit of a split, but we can't lose sight of our goals and what we want to achieve.

"I've been settling in well, I remember when I was at Glasgow and a couple of guys I know said it would be a good challenge, and I wanted to test myself.

"It takes a while to get used to a new club and new surroundings, but Exeter are a set-piece kind of team, so it has suited me."

Exeter's form this term has owed much to the brilliant Thomas Waldrom - who now has seven Aviva Premiership Rugby tries to his name after notching another against Wasps last time out.

Cornishman Jack Nowell (pictured) also reminded people of his talents with a double - his first tries since April 2013 - and Low never had any doubts he would come good after an injury-hit campaign last season.

"Jack is always a threat, he's a winger of international standard," added Low. "He's a great finisher, he's got good feet and is a very strong and talented player.

"The boys are glad that he is in our team, that's for sure, because he can be a threat to any side.

"Every team has one of those players, and Jack is ours. He's a local boy as well, which I'm sure makes it extra special for him to be scoring for Exeter."
