Chiefs trio help England U-18s to victory
Exeter Chiefs trio Jack Maunder, Jack Stanley and Kai Little all started for England Under-18s as they defeated their Scottish counterparts 28-6 win at Dalziel RFC.
Tries from Northampton Saints’ Roti Segun, Gloucester Rugby’s Sam Underhill, Leicester Tigers’ Charlie Thacker and Harlequins’ Joe Marchant set the platform for Head Coach John Fletcher’s side, as fly-half Harry Mallinder added eight points with the boot.
Mallinder’s early penalty gave England an eleventh minute lead but Scotland levelled up through Adam Hastings. Segun scored England’s opening try with 20 played but a second penalty from Hastings made it 8-6 before Mallinder scored his second three-pointer to make it 11-6 at the break.
England won the second half 17-0 as tries from BMW Man of the Match Underhill, Thacker and Marchant took the game beyond Scotland.
Fletcher said: “We were pleased to get the four tries but feel that there’s still a lot to work on. We made a few too many errors, but to be fair to Scotland – they more than played their part. We were pleased with the way the front row stepped up and our back three did well too. The bench added something when they came on, which was great, and we now focus on attention on playing Wales in a couple of weeks and performing well against them.”
