Exeter Chiefs have been dealt an untimely blow with the news that full-back Chrysander Botha is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after breaking his leg on international duty with Namibia.

The summer signing was stretchered off and taken to a local hospital after sustaining the injury in the eighth minute of his country's 17-13 loss to Canada in Colwyn Bay on Friday night.

An initial scan on the 26-year-old revealed that he had dislocated his left ankle and fractured his leg in the incident.

Botha is due to arrive back in Exeter today where further assessment will be made on the former Golden Lions back.
