Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter is hopeful the injury sustained by prop Brett Sturgess in the last minute of Saturday's Big Game 6 clash with Harlequins will not be too serious.

The loosehead was carted from the Twickenham turf with a serious-looking knee injury during his side's 22-6 Aviva Premiership defeat.

Sturgess was assessed immediately on site at English Rugby HQ and whilst there was no fracture of any kind, Baxter will not know until later this week the full extent of the problem.

"‘t doesn’t look like he has broken anything," said Baxter. "We still have to assess it, but it is a knee ligament type injury, and we will know a lot more when he has had a proper scan."

The Chiefs medical team will also take a close look at scrum-half Haydn Thomas, who was also forced from the field during the first period with a back problem.

"We'll assess Haydn as well, but he had a bit of muscle spasm in his back and he had to come off. Again, hopefully it won't be too serious."
