Exeter Chiefs Under-18s maintained their winning record in the newly-formed Academy League as they defeated visiting Saracens 10-5 at Tregye on Saturday.
Having won at Bath in their opening fixture, the Chiefs duly made it two from two in an entertaining encounter which saw both sides show their attacking intent from the outset in heavy conditions.
It was, however, the visitors who broke the game's deadlock on 10 minutes. Using a line-out move, Sarries - under the guidance of former England back-row forward Richard Hill - cleverly work the ball wide along their line to winger George Perkins, who did the rest with a finish in the corner.
Exeter's response was almost immediate as Max Bodilly initially reduced the arrears with a penalty, before they claimed a try of their own through Sam Denham.
Working the ball from one side to the other deep inside their own half, Denham received the ball just outside his own 22 before setting off on a run. With still two cover defenders to beat, he showed excellent skill and pace to round them before dotting under the posts. Bodilly added the extras with ease.
Although no further points were added during the contest, it remained a game where both sides played with skill and passion, but defences ultimately ruled the day.
The next outing for the Chiefs is Saturday's trip to London Irish.
