Mission Statement

The Exeter Chiefs England Rugby Academy is focused on producing rugby players for the Premiership & Beyond.

Exeter Chiefs England Rugby Academy is committed to producing players of the future through early identification, development and dedicating time to the “Best Players” leading to full time premiership and national honours.

By developing the person and leaders the “Player” will follow.

Along with maintaining a balanced approach to achieving ambitions within the game, players will also be supported in avenues of life outside the game.

Vision

• Our academy vision is to produce a first team of 20 full time graduates competing for Premiership & European selection by the year 2020

• Exeter Chiefs Rugby Club is built on sound business principles, work ethic and the Academy and development of young players is part of that business plan. We have a philosophy that drives the development of young players and by managing the structures we will achieve the aim of producing more home grown players that will compete for senior Squad places.

959693 (1)• Exeter Chiefs is proven in its success at turning young potential into excellence. Over the last four years, this pathway has produced the likes of Dave Ewers, Henry Slade, Jack Nowell, Luke Cowan Dickie, Sam Hill, Stu Townsend and Jack Maunder.

• Recognised as one of the leading academies in the country we believe by identifying, planning and guiding players through our detailed Elite Player Performance Plan, we operate a clear pathway through our youth system and into the first team. Historically, our Academy has produced players year-on-year for Exeter Chiefs and contributed significantly to international teams, including the current England sides across all ages and as well as the senior team.

• Staff within our structure are omnipotent and the development of not only structures but the staffing within those structure will ensure the vision will continue.

Philosophy

• Through the academy vision to produce a first team of 20 full time graduates competing for Premiership & European selection by the year 2020 it will provide the guidelines for our philosophy.

• Exeter Chiefs Academy also believe the importance of delivery and support on and off the field encompasses the philosophy and direction of the Academy.

• Professional sport is without doubt the pinnacle of many young people’s aspirations. The hard work and determination required to achieve success in this field is significant and the rewards for those who make it the rewards are great. The reality of breaking into the realms of professional sport aren’t without challenge. The percentages who go on to become elite sportsmen are few and the support during transition from sportsman to employment can be varied. Exeter Chiefs want it to be exceptional. We believe we have a duty to equip all engaged with professional sport, a foundation to make their second career a success. Exeter Chiefs want the values and disciplines that top end professional sport provides to translate into foundations for the rigours of employment and business, enhancing the individuals as transitions take place.

Exeter Chiefs play an open brand of rugby that is encouraged through all levels. Consistent terminology across two counties and communicated styles of coaching and play ensure the smooth transition not only between teams but also between age grades.
