With the Exeter Chiefs recent Aviva Premiership final win – the first time in their 146 year history - the atmosphere across the area is buzzing and is only set to increase in the lead up to Exeter 7s weekend next month.
Twelve of Europe’s top international Rugby 7s teams will compete in the Mitsubishi Motors Exeter 7s at Sandy Park on July 15-16, the final leg of the Rugby Europe Sevens Grand Prix that kicked off in Russia last weekend.
England Sevens player Alex Davis, said “It’s incredible to have the opportunity to play rugby all around the world but there’s nothing quite like playing on home turf. From my experience of playing in the Mitsubishi Motors Exeter 7s the atmosphere has always been phenomenal – it feels like the whole of the South West descends on Sandy Park for the weekend.”
Sevens around the world has gained a reputation for having a feel-good carnival atmosphere, and, now in its third year, the Mitsubishi Motors Exeter 7s looks to be even bigger and better than ever.
Not only will rugby fans have the chance to watch Europe’s best sevens players, including England, play at Sandy Park, but a whole host of activities, food, drink and entertainment on offer throughout the weekend promising action and excitement both on and off the pitch.
Local band ‘Basher Tate’ will entertain fans on the Saturday night, while a Real Ale and Cider Festival will run across Exeter 7s weekend. And, if you’re looking to really get into the spirit and fun of the weekend, embrace the Cowboys and Indians fancy dress theme, with prizes on offer for the most creative costumes.
Alongside the Mitsubishi Motors Exeter 7s at Sandy Park on the Saturday, the men and women’s Secure Trading 24/Sevens Regional Play off will take place at Topsham Sports Ground on Saturday ahead of the Secure Trading 24/Sevens Series National Finals on 29th July.
A community 7s tournament, the SW Rugby 7s, will also run alongside the international 7s, offering teams the chance to enter and compete in front of a strong crowd of supporters. To enter a team visit www.swrugby7s.co.uk
From the sidelines, food and drinks vans will keep visitors fed and watered throughout the day at both Topsham Sports Ground and Sandy Park, with a whole host of local produce on offer.
With a DJ and music van, chill out area with garden games and a free bus to Sandy Park, it’s easy to capture all of the entertainment and fun across Exeter 7s weekend.
