Sidmouth Rugby Club provided the perfect setting for youngsters on the Aviva Tackling Numbers programme to put their skills to the test in the latest End of Term Festival.
Pupils from Otterton, Drakes, St Andrews Chardstock, Willowbrook, Sidmouth, Whimple, St Peters and Lady Seaward primary schools have all been engaging in recent weeks in the highly successful programme, which is delivered locally by the Exeter Chiefs Community team.
For six weeks, the rugby-themed programme aims to not only enhance the uptake and enjoyment of physical activity amongst pupils, but it also helps integrate interactive classroom maths sessions with practical, number-based rugby games.
Delivered by all 12 Premiership Rugby clubs, the award-winning programme equips children with the confidence and skills to use maths in a practical way, as well as providing them with the foundations for children to manage their money well, now and in the future.
Chiefs Community coach Aron Struminski, who has been helping to deliver the programme locally, said: “The festival is a fantastic celebration of all of the hard work that has been put in over the past few weeks by the pupils and their teachers.
“They’ve really taken on board the lessons we have been teaching and the rugby skills they are showing are incredible. We love teaching Tackling Numbers as it is a great combination of rugby and maths!”
