Dutch trip is huge success for U17s

By Mark Stevens

Exeter Chiefs Under-17s coach Ruairi Cushion led the thanks to the Chiefs’ Supporters Club for their donation towards helping make their recent tour to Amsterdam a huge success.

Cushion, together with fellow coaches Marc Dibble and Joe Satt, help lead a 23-man squad to the Netherlands for the two-game tour.

Made up of players from Truro, Ivybridge and Exeter Colleges, as well as three outreach players from Truro School, Hartpury College and Wellington School, the group enjoyed victories in both of their games.

First, they defeated a combined British Schools XV from the Netherlands & Belgium in Diok 67-5, before overcoming a Netherlands Under-18s side 35-17 at Den Haag RFC.

As well as playing the two games, the squad enjoyed a sight-seeing trip into Amsterdam, followed by a team quiz.

Cushion said: “It was a fantastic trip for all of us and we were obviously delighted with the two wins. We had two good tests across the weekend and it was good for the players to experience playing against teams from another country.

“A huge thanks must go to John Lockyer and the Exeter Chiefs Supporters Club, whose donation was invaluable in helping to fund the trip.”
